![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My guess is that simulated meat just doesn't bring much flavor to the table-hopefully the menu can soon expand to include proud veggie dumplings that don't try so hard to replicate meaty classics. As we keep eating, though, things begin to get a little redundant the cabbage-wrapped sui mai and the crisp-skinned pot stickers were pleasant enough, but they shared the sweet-pungent turnip-y taste of that initial radish cake. Still, for vegetarians seeking a little variety in their mastication, I imagine it's nice to eat some little springy fake shrimp (in the steamed shrimp ball) or some rather tasty barbecue fake pork buried in a spongy steamed hum bao. It's a theory I don't subscribe to, even though I'm a carnivore. I always order this braised beancurd skin roll when I go to dim sum places, so I just had to try what a vegan one tastes like. Unfortunately the first time we tried to go there we arrived at 3 p.m., and they are closed from 3-6. 3 mains, 3 dim sum, two small rice, two pots of tea was 291 all inclusive - pretty reasonable. Don’t worry about failing your diet with a cheatday when you’re dining at Fittie Sense, because everything here is crafted with healthy eating in mind. For example, the sticky rice shu mai looks like it only contains flour, rice, and mushrooms at first glance. Everything was really good, especially the main dishes. It shocked me how many foods I didn’t even think about included animal products. Despite my fascination, I'm a little ambivalent on fake meat-you've got to admire the craftsmanship that goes into simulating a prawn, but so much hocus-pocus (and who knows what alien flavoring agents) seems to affirm the theory that meat, or at least meat-like substances, are necessary.
